Description:

One rectangular Northern Coast Salish basket.  Basket is slat coil construction made from cedar roots with cherry bark imbrication.  Base of basket is 6 slats wide and walls are 4 slats high.  Top slat of wall is indented to fit inside the lid.  Imbricated design in centre is a combination of pyramid and diamond motifs; on ends they are a series of parallelograms which form zig-zag lines.  Blocks of colour are green, orange, red, black. Originally a lid would have accompanied this basket but the lid is missing.

 

Technique: slat coil, imbrication


Materials: cedar root, cherry bark, unknown plant fiber, cedar slats.

 

Overall Dimensions: 24 cm long x 12.7 cm wide x 8.6 cm high
