This basket closely resembles PC LA1 (see photos below) and its identification as a bullet basket is on that basis.  The fact that this basket is slightly smaller than PC LA1, and the variation in its lid fastening system, cast some doubt on this identification, however.

Description:

A small, rectangular slat coiled basket with lid, wool hinges and a plastic button fastener. Basket walls are 4 slats high topped with a single bundle coil.  An inset slat forms the mouth of the basket over which the lid fits.  The bottom slat is edged by false braid.

 

Motifs:  The primary motif, present on all 4 faces of the basket body, is an imbricated diamond shape rendered in Jeannie Dominicks standard form and colour sequence - black outside, white inside that and natural red colour in centre.  Secondary motifs, on lid top and lid rim.  Lid top motif consists of paired imbricated lines (see photo).  Lid rim motif consists of 4 imbricated lines at intervals around rim.

 

Materials: cedar wood slats, cedar root, wild cherry bark - natural (polished) red colour and dyed black, corn husk, wool, plastic button
